How to Reduce The AC Bill

July 11, 20232 min read

Is it me or are summers getting hotter? No problem, let’s just flip on the AC and cool the place down. Sounds easy enough. And it really is easy, that is until the utility bill comes in and you realize that the bill is higher than the temperature outside.

The truth is that during the summer, we all pump our AC up to the max to stay comfortable and we all notice that our utility bills seem to skyrocket. For some people, this is a worthy investment, but to many of us, we’d rather keep that bill down so we can spend that money elsewhere. Believe it or not, there are things that we can do to keep our bill down AND keep our home or business comfortable for everybody inside. Check out some of the tips below:

5 Tips for Keeping The AC Bill down

  1. Seal up your ducts or go ductless: Cool air is constantly lost through ducts and these ducts can account for up to 30 percent of the energy consumption for your cooling system. Ductless AC units keep the room cooler and are more efficient .

  2. Put up some curtains: Blackout curtains and other dark curtains can reflect the sun and its heat back outside. Another thing to consider is the blinds. Interior slatted blinds are better at keeping the sun’s energy outside.

  3. Use a ceiling fan: Using a ceiling fan cools the room as well and it uses way less energy than your ac unit.

  4. Change your Air Filter: Air filters keep your HVAC system running and it keeps your home or office cool by preventing dust from blocking your vents. If the filters are dirty, the ac unit has to work harder to cool the room.

  5. Get Your AC unit serviced: Get your local HVAC professional to come out and look at and service your air conditioning system. Your contractor should clean outdoor coils, check voltage connections and make sure the refrigerant is at proper levels.

Just always remember that the goal is to be comfortable. Don’t take so many precautions and keep the air off so much that it makes you miserable. Nobody wants that.
